In the year 2734, our race had already succeeded
in colonizing other worlds, outside our solar system, in the search of
new resources that would better our way of living. Every colony was governed
by a democratic system that permitted the colonists to create their own
set of directives, taxes, etc. The colonists were happy with this system,
although. Merchants who made a living off of traveling from world to world
selling goods, buying goods, found themselves quickly annoyed with all
the different taxes and monetary systems between colonies. The merchants
wished to form a Trader’s Union in which they would have an influence decisions
made regarding prices and taxes of all rare goods. The general public had
no objections to the merchant’s requests, hence the Galactic Trade Union
was founded.
The trade union was not enough to keep order in our colonies. We needed
a common governmental system. A representative from every colony was invited
to participate in a galactic-scale meeting on Earth. The representatives
were chosen by the members of their colonies according to their various
social statures, diplomatic understandings, and political backgrounds.
Once all participants had arrived at Earth the meeting commenced. It took
three days to present all the colonist’s ideas and suggestions. The final
planning and cutting took, approximately, two weeks. The final result was
a list of 547 directives, a selected group of government officials
that would remain on Earth and a name that would remain present in our
history for many centuries to come: The Terran Federation of Territories.
The year was 2937.
Most of the colonies were subject to the federation’s authority with
the exception of a handful of systems that were left neutral. The remaining
systems were left under the trade union’s authority. The trade union was
not neccessarily subject to the federation but they did work in conjunction
with each other on a regular basis. The Universal Research Department and
N.A.S.A. were, and still are, in the process of expanding the reach of
our colonies in the galaxy. The Red Cross liked to accompany them in their
missions, medical research is largely helped by discoveries made on new
planets. Other independent companies and organizations started to make
their impression on the galaxy. Terran Technologies, Nova Developers and
Apollo Shipyards focused on ship and utility development.
It is now the year 2998, their are over 500 of our colonies in the galaxy.
Life is peaceful. |
